ARTIST STATEMENT

I am drawn to clay and mixed media because it allows me to take those things that I experience in my life and communicate them through the use of symbols, metaphors and iconography.  The man-made found objects that I use in my work take on new life and meaning when they are juxtaposed with other objects and figurative clay sculpture.

My sculptures and assemblages address the relationship between man, culture, and his environment. I am inspired by the emotional, moral and spiritual challenges that we all must face. They are personal, yet at the same time universal to the human condition.

My intent is to engage the viewer to interact or empathize with the work. If this occurs, I feel that I have succeeded in communicating as an artist.
